Our new website has been up and running for over 4 months. I am happy to say that the traffic to our website has increased month on month by 2 and 3 hundred percent (200 - 300%).

Our membership area is a source of information in both current and archived publications. However, to date only 50% of our membership base has logged in to our Members area.

We do not understand WHY!

One reason may be due to the fact that we do not have your correct details if you have not received any correspondence from us in the last 3 months or are unable to login to the members area please contact us to confirm that we have your correct email address.

I you are able to login to our members area please confirm that you are listed on our Members Directory and that your email address and other details are correct. You can do this by performing a search for your name using our search facility (you must be logged in for your details to appear).

I am employed as a Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist...

...but due to staff shortages I am being asked to work on the wards for a percentage of my working week. I have concerns about returning to the ward not only because of personal competency issues but also that this will not be in the best interests of the people on my caseload. Please can you advise me?

Answer:

While the PDNSA committee can not become involved in individual cases we do feel our role is to support members and offer advice, drawing on the vast experience and network contacts available. Below are 10 suggestions from the general consensus of the committee and we appreciate there will be local influences and factors that will impact on options available.

Meet with your line manager to voice your concerns.
Check your job description and contract of employment.
Contact your union representative for advice.
Determine if Human Resources department are aware of proposed plans.
If the post was pump primed consider contacting Parkinson’s UK (PDS) for advice.
Discuss concerns with Regional PDNS group and Clinical Supervision sessions.
Ensure a risk assessment is carried out for change in working practice.
Consider competencies for change in role.
Contact PDNSA for opportunity to access further discussion.
Remember to document all actions and discussions.

URGENT MESSAGE re The PDNSA Standing Order Form

Please be aware that all versions of the PDNSA Standing order (Bankers Order) Form downloaded before 27th January 2010 is missing a 0 (zero) at the beginning of the PDNSA Account Number.

The seven figure number should contain 8 figures including a preceding 0.

What do I need to login to the membership area

Answer:

To login to the membership area you need your PDNSA Membership number (Enter into the user box) and a password which has been sent to you electronically or set by yourself (enter password into the password box).

If you do not have a password click on the Did You Forget Your Password? link and enter your PDNSA Membership number or the email address which is registered with the PDNSA and a new password will be emailed to you.

Therefore the main aims for the PDNSA Committee for 2009 will be:

To continue to represent and raise the profile of PDNS´s
To hold a successful conference - 5/6 October 2009
To sustain good communication between the PDNSA committee and its members via
- Transmitter
- Website Updates
- PDNSA Report to Regional Groups after each committee Meeting
To promote best practice and partnership working using the following:
- To deliver the 2^nd ´Towards Expert Practice´ programme for experienced PDNSA members - 3/4 April 2009
- Influence national policy development and the political agenda by joint working with the PDS with the All Party Parliamentary Group
- Promote awareness of the PDNSA to raise the profile
- Support and facilitate innovative practice &nsp; developments
- Continued joint working with PDS, Pharmaceutical industry, Healthy Alliance and others
- Endorsing, developing and supporting appropriate projects
- Working closely with medical colleges within the British Geriatric Society Interest Group and the British Neurologist Movement Disorder Special Interest group
